Non-Nazeer straight Egyptian Arabians

A rare and declining line of new Egyptian bloodlines is the non-Nazeer*. Exceptional for it's outcross potential, these bloodlines are on the way to becoming extinct. The original non-Nazeer imports where brought here and most often bred to the Nazeer lines. Such horses as *Ibn Hafiza, *Zaghloul, *Sultann, and *Tuhotmos (to name several of the most popular). Some of the mares were *Nabilahh, *Sanaaa, *Sooma, *Cleopatraa, *Bint Bint El Samraa, *Bint Bint Kateefa, *Izees, and *Iziza. We are fortunate that some of these mares were bred to produce non-Nazeer offspring of which a few decendants are still remaining today.

After more than a decade and a half of carefully selecting and producing from this group Treff-Haven Arabians is currently home to 9 straight Egyptian non-Nazeer horses - 5 mares, 5 stallions (U.S. totals - 9 mares, 9 stallions). Perpetuating these lines is only a singular part of the larger picture which defines the Treff-Haven program and by no means it's sole objective.

2007 marked the passing of Naheed and son Treff-Haven Emir. And in 2008...Sahlih.

NAHEED (*Zaghloul X Nagliah (*Ibn Hafiza X *Nabilahh)) (d. 2007) was the foundation mare for this group at Treff-Haven Arabians and through her daughter TREFF-HAVEN NASANA and son TREFF-HAVEN EMIR (d. 2007) both by *GAF Hosam, now has great grand offspring in these lines. Another Naheed daughter, TREFF-HAVEN NADIA, is by the *Ibn Hafiza son Sahlih (see below).

TREFF-HAVEN NASANA (*GAF Hosam X Naheed) also has a Sahlih (*Ibn Hafiza X *Sanaaa) daughter and son to replace her in the outcross lines, TREFF-HAVEN MAYSA and TREFF-HAVEN AZRAK. Azrak's first foal arrived in 2007, out of Bint Lebleba, another from this cross expected 2008.

And then there is BINT LEBLEBA (*GAF Mosaad X *Lebleba) bred by Mrs. Barbara Johanson, late owner of El Ghorab Arabian Farm and a dear friend. Rounding out the line up are B. Lebleba's 4 sons and a daughter by Treff-Haven Emir and 2 sons by Treff-Haven Azrak.

BINT LEBLEBA is a 1988 Grey mare with a truly lovely chisled exotic head, big eyes, great substance and broad chest and hindquarters. B. Lebleba produced a remarkable 2001 colt by Treff-Haven Emir, another in 2002 and 2004 and finally a filly (2005), 2006 brought another full brother, and 2007 her first foal by Treff-Haven Azrak (Sahlih X Treff-Haven Nasana), an elegant chestnut colt. Bint Lebleba produced another son by Azrak in 2008, this one a grey.

*GAF MOSAAD (Ibn Hamama X Rasmia) (now deceased) a 1972 chestnut imported stallion and sire to Bint Lebleba spent his final days here with us. He was an extremely upright and long necked stallion with an attention getting air about him. Unfortunately he was not with us long enough to sire any more foals. However, we are excited to see the contribution his beautiful daughter is making to these uniquely important bloodlines.

TREFF-HAVEN EMIR (*GAF Hosam x Naheed) (d. 2007) is a 1997 flaxen chestnut with an exceptionally long upright neck, very small pretty head, big hip, short back and good topline. Emir has a number of foals that attest to his ability as a sire and show him to be strong in passing a long well shaped neck with good placement and a smooth balanced body on to his offspring.

*GAF HOSAM (Sabeel X Mouna) a 1972 black bay Saqlawi Jidran stallion, was imported from Egypt to the U.S. by Elis and Barbara Johanson in 1979 along with 3 other fine Egyptian Arabian stallions (one of those being *GAF Mosaad mentioned above). Among his accomplishments *GAF Hosam was Egypt's Top Point Dressage winner and showed to first place ribbons in jumping both in Egypt and the U.S. After importation Hosam was named Connecticut Reserve Champion Dressage horse (to *GAF Mosaad's Champion) and earned an International Achievement Award in Dressage as well as winning Liberty classes with his true trotting ability. His influence can be found in our program through Treff-Haven Nasana and Treff-Haven Emir.

Sahlih

SAHLIH (*Ibn Hafiza X *Sanaaa) (d. 2008) was another of this limited group and sire to 3 of our non-Nazeer individuals - Treff-Haven Maysa, Treff-Haven Nadia, and Treff-Haven Azrak. He stood at Cherry Hill Arabians in Alabama.

ABU ALI (*Ibn Hafiza X *Nabilahh) was lost to us many years ago now after only a short (but impressionable) entrance into our lives. Although he sired a number of foals only a very few were straight Egyptian and none were non-Nazeer.

*Non-Nazeer is the term we use to describe straight new Egyptian (post WWII) Arabian horses with no Nazeer in the pedigree. Invaluable for their outcross potential with the often heavily inbred Nazeer lines, these horses are also prized, among many fine individual qualities, for their kind temperments and athletic ability (resulting in the gelding of many stallions to be family horses without leaving any offspring).
